Gotta Be Luongo

Canada dominated this game tonight but just could not get a save when they needed it and that falls on Brodeur. He was overactive all night and seemed to be guessing far too often.

Roberto Luongo has to be the guy from here on out.

The loss against the USA gives Canada a difficult route to gold which includes a game on Tuesday against the Germans and if they can win that, a quarterfinal match up with the Russians.

Could just be me but it seems like Babcock has been over coaching the whole way. Seems to be so desperate to find the perfect linemate for Crosby that he's hurting the team's best player in the process. Leave Nash and Iginla up there and let them work it out.

Pronger should not see the ice the rest of the way. To the "Pronger Sucks" guy who was always on the live blogs bashing Pronger; guess you were right!

Oh and by the way, how in the world does Babcock not call a time out after that shift from the Crosby line? You have to rest them and go back to them with the goalie pulled. No brainer...

Back at it on Tuesday! GO CANADA GO!

  1. Chirp - is that you? Aren't you supposed to be the eternal optimist? ;)

Anyways, I'm not too concerned about that game. The team ran into a hot goalie and got some bad bounces. The loss should certainly highlight that they can't take any teams lightly from here on in. I though several of the older guys had a weak showing tonight and was also wondering why Babcock decided to hold on to his timeout as a souvenir of Vancouver 2010.

Look at it this way though - we get a bonus Team Canada game before on our way to Olympic GOLD!! Russia should be a good warm-up for the medal round Canada after the "practice" (see above though) on Tuesday.

  2. i was watching V pre game coverage and MAF was asked what he thought of babcock not giving him a start even though he has made it to the last two stanley cup finals.
    MAF replied: "c'est bizarre"
i thought that was a weird thing for a guy to say. usually players keep mum about stuff like that.
this goaltending controversy seems like a mirror to what has happened in ottawa over the past 3 years

  3. Still quite optimistic Jim!

Just need a save the rest of the way and I dont think Brodeur is up to it, based on what I've seen the last two games.

I feel bad for the Germans though that's for sure!

  4. I don't know about you guys, but I am not going to be staying up to watch the game against Russia at midnight on Wednesday.

  5. I did not like Brodeur's game last night. He should've just kept things simple and smothered the puck anytime it went near him. I hope Luongo gets the start next game and just keeps things simple.

Can you believe Marleau, Thornton and Pronger? All of them just cracked under pressure. I never wanted any of them to be on this team and they all just proved it last night. Where's Carter, St. Louis, Stamkos and Robidas when you need them. Is it possible to take those three out even if they aren't injured and substitute them for any of those 4 mentioned?

I doubt it will happen, but hey I hope the lines will look something like this for Tuesday:

    Nash - Crosby - Iginla
    Heatley - Getzlaf - Staal
    Marleau - Toews - Perry
    Morrow - Thornton - Richards
    Bergeron

    Niedermyer - Pronger
    Keith - Doughty
    Weber - Boyle
    Seabrook

    Luongo
    Brodeur

  6. I agree with EH_Matt, and like his lineup!
Players are spread out evenly to ice 4 strong lines, both offensively and defensively!

Pronger should be a healthy scratch ,replaced by Seabrook !

Luongo has to shine, make us forget Brodeur, and we can make a great comeback to be in Gold Medal Game on Sunday Feb 28th, against any team !!
