The unbelievable talent in this Olympic hockey tournament is really starting to show through.
Sweden was pushed to the limit by Belarus today. The Slovaks upset the Russians last night and the Swiss gave Canada everything they could handle.
An unbelievable performance by Jonas Hiller left Canadian shooters scratching their heads all night long. Luckily, a shootout winner from Sidney Crosby allowed the nation to breathe a collective sigh of relief.
Because Canada needed overtime to beat the Swiss, they now trail the undefeated Americans by a single point heading into their Sunday showdown.
As well as Canada played at times last night, there's still room for improvement. There is a real lack of physical presence right now in that Canadian line up and it really showed last night against the Swiss.
Teams should be afraid to play the Canadians but last night the Swiss didn't back down in the slightest. Canada needs to start getting physical and it has to start against the Americans on Sunday.
All sorts of talent on this team but Babcock may want to consider shortening the bench right now. Rolling four lines has it's benefits but the top offensive guys need to have a chance to get into a groove.
Can't wait till Sunday...
GO CANADA GO!

bring the getzlaf, nash, heatley line back!
ReplyDeleteit worked great during the world championships!over 90% of the teams points!
lines would be:
getzlaf, nash, heatley
toews, crosby, perry
marleau, thorton, ignila
staal, richards, bergeron.
go canada go!
Too bad that Cory Clouston is not the Head Coach of Team Canada !
ReplyDeleteHe would no doubt have juggled his lines, and the San Jose line would have been dispersed !
The lines suggested on previous post , might be inserted by Babcock, but he has all day Saturday ,to try some different combos, and evaluate the chemistry !
Just not enough preparation time allocated
to Team Canada, for these World Championship Tournaments, and more so in the Olympics !!
Interesting to see who will start in goal on Sunday ! Will it be Brodeur, or Luongo ??
I strongly believe that Babcock will stick with the more experienced Brodeur !!
GO TEAM CANADA GO !!!!
Canada 5 USA 4
Robert Cyr
Robert Cyr...way to go out on a limb and predict that Brodeur will start. Because Babcock didn't publicly state that Brodeur's starting to the media after Thursday's game, right?
ReplyDeleteOne other thing I noticed about CAN in the last game was the defense was waay too stationery. In 5 on 5 situations, they seemed like they didnt know what to do - they froze under the pressure of a hardworking opponent. Guys were unsure of when to switch off with someone, whether to try puck support in own end during battles, or to take a guy coming in the slot etc. They need to address this ASAP. And the biggest thing is physicality, we need to finish checks all the time, and flatten guys every time the chance is there. We are a big team and should not be worried about getting into a hard hitting physical game.
