SensChirp Picks Team Canada

Alright folks, the time has come for me to announce my selections for Team Canada's entry in the Olympic Hockey tournament. It may not have the hype and hoop la that Wednesday's announcement will have but in some ways it's just as significant.

Hmm perhaps not...

Anyway, here are my selections for Team Canada...

Nash-Crosby-Iginla
Heatley-Thornton-Marleau
Toews-Getzlaf-Perry
Fisher-Richards-St. Louis
Doan

Niedermayer-Weber
Pronger-Boyle
Keith-Bouwmeester
Seabrook

Brodeur
Luongo
Fleury

Slap the C on Mr. Niedermayer and watch 'em go...

Thoughts? What are your final rosters?

  2. He has slowed down a little but I think his all around game has remained constant.

That's what will land him consideration when the final roster is announced.

I had a tough time putting Seabrook on over Doughty and Green but I just think it's too much of an advantage having two guys that can come as a ready made pairing (Keith/Seabrook)

  3. but you don't even have keith and seabrook on the same paring so where is the advsatange in that?

  4. Morrow over St. Louis. And no Doan. Why not Nathan Horton as the extra man? Or Eric Staal?

  7. I think Eric Staal needs to be there over Doan or Toews or Fisher

Also I think you need to find a spot for Mike Green as if we need a goal late in the game - he is just too good not to be there IMO

Also - what Richards - Brad or Mike? Personally would go with Brad

  8. To me, the Mike Fisher decision is dependent on the players that he is competing with for a spot.

If Yzerman is trying to decide between Fisher, Doan, and Morrow then I'd vote for Fisher. I think that he's better than these guys.

If the decision is between Fisher, Mike Richards, and Brad Richards, then I would take both Richards' over Fisher.

For me, Mike Richards is a must. He gets under Ovechkin's skin like no other player in the league.

The way I see it, Canada could take any combination of the 46 players invited to the summer camp, and they will still reach the semi-finals, barring some fluky thing happening.

The roster should be built to beat the Russians and the Swedes. Mike Richards would matchup well with Ovechkin.

All that being said, I think luck will determine the gold medal winning team more than skill. I think that Canada, Russia, and Sweden are pretty well equal. In a one game elimination format, anything can happen. A bad penalty or a lucky goal might be more of a determining factor than who is playing on the third or fourth line.

It's fun debating the lineup, but it probably doesn't matter much in the end. Just my opinion.

  11. Mike Richards isn't as effective as you think against AO. My reasoning, simple, when AO was asked who is the toughest forward to play against in the NHL he replied "Mikey Fisher". Point and match.

    Fisher > M. Richards.

  12. did AO actually say that?
